Occupational Therapist - Rosebud

We have an exciting opportunity for an Occupational Therapist to join our Social Inclusion team supporting our EChO (Enhancing children's outcomes) centre in Rosebud. This role would be ideal for an Occupational Therapist with 4 years + experience who is looking to expand their career into a mentoring and coaching role.  You will be working closely with the Educators within our centres to provide specific advice and coaching regarding strategies to improve the outcomes of highly vulnerable children. This includes work on the floor and off the floor in the early learning context in addition to delivering educator training after hours.


Key coaching areas include:

  • Sensory processing theory and strategies
  • Motor skill development
  • Play development


This is a fixed term contract for 12 months working 1 day / week (7.6 hours) commencing as soon as possible. The position will have strong external linkages to community supports and services that will best meet the needs of children and families. Additionally, the occupational therapist you will support the Centre director in progressing external referrals.


The ideal candidate should possess the following:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Occupational Therapy
  • Strong understanding of child development (birth - 5 years)
  • Strong understanding of sensory processing theory and the ability to translate this practically through evidence based approaches to educators
  • Ability to influence the environmental context that enhances children learning
  • Understanding of relevant early childhood frameworks and standards
  • Experience working with young children and families, particularly vulnerable children and families
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and also collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Demonstrated high level of interpersonal, communication, negotiation and coaching skills including the ability to consult with relevant staff, teams and professionals to achieve improved outcomes for children and families
  • Ability to document, analyse and report on relevant key performance indicators
  • Maintain a high level of ethical and professional behaviour, including preserving the confidentiality of children, families and educators
  • High level of self-awareness; understanding own strengths and areas for development
  • Demonstrated ability to confidently present information to a diverse group of educators, professionals and parents and/or carers
