Role: Data Scientist

As a Data Scientist at Goodstart, you’ll turn complex data into powerful insights that lift operational performance, enhance safety, and support better learning outcomes nationwide.

 

Your Impact:

In this role, you’ll turn complex data into insights that strengthen safety, improve operational performance, and support better outcomes for children and families across our network.

You will:

  • Design, build and deploy predictive Machine Learning models that forecast demand, identify risk and support resource planning.
  • Analyse large, diverse datasets to uncover hidden patterns, validate findings, and deliver actionable insights that inform strategic decision making.
  • Develop clean, scalable, production-ready code and work closely with data engineering to ensure data quality and integrity.
  • Translate advanced analytical results into clear visualisations and narratives for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ensure all models and analysis meet governance, privacy and ethical standards.
  • Collaborate with data engineering and insights teams to continue improving data quality and deliver scalable solutions.
  • Proactively engage with stakeholders to identify opportunities for data science to add value across operations, safety, and education.
  • Produce concise reports, presentations and metrics that guide leadership decision-making.

You’ll bring to the table:

  • 3+ year experience working in a dedicated Data Scientist or advanced analytics role within a large organisation with a related Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a quantitative field such as Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or a closely related discipline
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience building and deploying analytical solutions using modern coding languages such as R or python (python preferred) and advanced SQL
  • Proven ability in applying predictive analytics modelling techniques (e.g. scenarios, forecasting) in an applied business setting
  • Demonstrated competency in implementing machine learning methodologies such as gradient boosting machines (GBM), random forest (RF) and generalised linear modelling (GLM)
  • Demonstrated experience in presenting and communicating intricate quantitative analyses to non-technical audiences, including senior management and influencing strategic decisions based on those findings
  • Familiarity with data privacy regulations and ethical considerations when working with sensitive data
  • Current QLD Working with Children Check
  • Desirable: experience with MLOps, cloud platforms, LLMs/AI agentic systems, and causal inference methodologies
