Role: Industrial & Employment Relations Specialist 

 Location: Murarrie, QLD

 Employment TypePart-time, 25hrs per week Fixed-term (12-months)

 

We’re looking for an experienced Industrial and Employment Relations Specialist to join the team at Goodstart. The Industrial and Employment Relations Specialist provides expert legal, industrial and risk-based advice to support Goodstart’s management of complex injury-related employment matters.

This role operates at the intersection of employment law, industrial relations, injury management and organisational risk. It supports lawful, fair, timely and well-evidenced decision-making regarding return to work, reasonable adjustments, inherent requirements, redeployment and, where required, defensible employment end points.

 

Your Impact:

  • Provide specialist leadership across complex injury-related employment matters, helping guide consistent, lawful and risk-informed decision-making.
  • Lead constructive engagement across the Recover at Work and People and Culture interface to clarify roles, core actions, accountabilities and escalation points.
  • Influence stakeholders through clear, balanced and practical advice that supports sound judgement in difficult or ambiguous circumstances.
  • Partner with the Head of Recover at Work, People and Culture and relevant leaders to support timely progression of high-risk, sensitive and complex matters.
  • Provide expert advice on employment law, industrial relations and the employment implications of injury management matters.  
  • Support lawful and defensible decision-making where employees may be unable to return to their substantive or pre-injury roles. 
  • Strengthen governance and decision discipline across complex injury-related employment matters. 
  • Help uplift capability across Recover at Work, People and Culture and relevant leaders by providing practical guidance on legal risk, decision quality and case progression. 
  • Translate legislative and industrial risk into practical guidance for operational leaders and internal stakeholders.
  • Provide risk-based recommendations on matters involving prolonged incapacity, including where ongoing employment may no longer be reasonably sustainable.
  • Demonstrates sound judgement when making complex decisions through utilisation of technical knowledge and expertise

You’ll bring to the table:

  • Tertiary qualification in Law.
  • Admitted to practise as a lawyer in Australia, with a current practising certificate or eligibility to hold one, where required.
  • Demonstrated experience in employment law, workplace relations, industrial relations, or another directly relevant legal field.
  • Strong experience advising on complex incapacity, return to work, reasonable adjustment, redeployment and employment risk matters.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive, high-volume and legally complex matters.
  • Strong working knowledge of relevant Australian legislative and industrial frameworks.
  • Current QLD Working with Children Check
